POSITIVE ENERGY UP, FOCUS DOWN

Yessss! I am so incredibly proud to realize and celebrate the achievement of one of my Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs)! That's right! My #BHAG of becoming an author is official on March 25th, 2021 with the release of Customer Experience 3!?! 🥳📚✔️🙌

While I may not be the most polished speaker, I’ve found that writing is where I’m best able to convey my thoughts and ideas. Books have always been a favorite hobby of mine. My favorite genres are mysteries, supernatural phenomena, and fantasy - which explains why a) I have a stellar imagination and b) Belle is my favorite Disney princess. 🧙🏻‍♀️👸 In 2018 I added a new genre to the list, self-empowerment. This was the year I put on my most festive costume, took the reigns, and started navigating the unmarked air space known as my life’s journey - yes, in this reference I’m Joy, the North Pole Elf voted Most Determined-to-Become-Her-Best-sElf! 😂🧝🏻‍♀️🎄 It’s because of these books that I started challenging myself to find who I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. It’s because of these books that I found a more defined career path in Customer Experience. It’s because of these books that I took my strengths of Joy & Moxie and started on a new path to #BecomingMore. And it’s because of these books, that I wanted to become an author and share my experiences with others.

When it comes to achieving my personal or professional goals, I've often been told, "everything just comes easy for you" or "you must be super lucky." Um, as much as I'd like to say it's a piece of cake hitting those goalstones (goals + milestones = goalstones, not to be confused with gull stones 😝), it's not.

My goal of becoming a published author, didn't just happen. It wasn't magic, it wasn't effortless, and it wasn't because I knew how to make it happen either. It was making a conscious pact with myself that I was going to make this thing happen. It was done one baby-learning-to-walk step at a time; sometimes falling completely down, sometimes stumbling unsure of my stability, and constantly readjusting every time I stepped onto a new type of terrain. It was done by putting myself out there; getting uncomfortable with things I hadn’t done before (public speaking, leading workshops, or sitting on panels), making connections with people I didn’t know, and courageously writing about topics I was still learning about. It was done employing my positive outlook; never dwelling long on misfortune or failure, but instead, learning from it and continuously moving forward. It was done by refocusing; relentlessly finding new angles I haven't traversed before, fueling my mind with knowledge from other's experiences, never allowing negativity or the victim syndrome to halt my progress. It was done by persisting with positivity.

That persistency led me to the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this #CX book. A book that is the collaborative efforts of myself and 27 other audacious #CXPros writing about a discipline we’re all passionate about, Customer Experience. And so, you may be wondering, “What is Customer Experience?” and/or “Why would I be interested in this topic?” Well, if you are ...

  • Interested in a practical guide to influencing change and designing better human-centered experiences,

  • A #CXPro looking to #levelup and gain insights on how to continue developing your career,

  • Passionate about #customercentricity and putting your #customersfirst, or

  • Looking to #differentiate your business and thrive in today's environment

… this book is for you! Even if you didn’t answer “yes” to any of the points above, if you have customers or serve others, you'll find value in the frameworks and ideas shared by 28 global #customerexperience leaders and practitioners.

Your goals are not going to happen without a can-do mindset and laser focus on the end in mind. So ... if you're ready to hit those personal or professional career milestones, tick of those to-dos, and realize those big dreams - get your positive energy up and focus down!

What BHAG are you going after? Are you doing something every day to manifest it? Keep the fire burning, breathing more life into it with every every step and decision you make. Whether your actions are big or small, every action is progress. Progress doesn’t have to be pretty or perfect, it just has to be consistent. And soon enough, you’ll find yourself achieving one of your Big Hairy Audacious Goals. 💪❤️💪
